When I first meet Ashlyn Rae, she is sitting in a make-up chair getting ready. As I walk towards her, she is chatting with Daniel the make-up artist. I nervously introduce myself. She greets me with a warm smile and a delicate, soft handshake. As I clasp her tiny hand, I'm immediately intimidated by her overwhelming, natural beauty. I'm briefly stunned speechless. She has a captivating smile that seems to sparkle and invite a person in. Her green eyes twinkle, even under the mediocre kitchen lights. I quickly gather my senses and decide to break away like a bat out of hell. I calmly walk away so that I don't get dumbfounded by her gaze. I almost stumble, debating with myself whether or not I came off looking like a complete idiot.

When I enter the office area of the set, Alicia Silver is sitting in front of her laptop computer. I introduce myself to her. She greets me with a warm and friendly smile. One look at me and I can tell she senses my excitement of being on set. She explains to me that she's more than happy to answer any and all questions. Alicia tells me that Kenny is usually the photographer, but he is currently attending to other business. She explains that Kenny's more than capable protege, Matt, is handling the bulk of the photo shoot today. But Kenny will join us later for the video portion of the shoot.

I scan the room and see the lovely Sativa once again supervising the set. Sativa is in charge of writing the set-ups and dialogue for the hardcore action for the day. She greets me warmly as usual. I claim a corner for myself and begin to settle in. After several moments, Sativa and Alicia start to swap industry stories. Alicia and Sativa are never mean spirited or cruel when recounting or hearing industry stories. But after 11 years of shooting content, nothing really surprises Alicia. When she hears crazy industry stories, she is simply past the drama of it all. Since she was a model herself, she can relate to the roller coaster ride that adult artists go on. It's obvious that her sympathies lie with the well being of all the performers and artists, but it's clear she would never jeopardize her livelihood or put  her crew in a position to deal with unnecessary behind the scenes drama. She later explains to me that she perfers to use models like Ashlyn, who aren't necessarily involved in the whole industry scene.

Not that Ashlyn Rae is a novice. Ashlyn who is 19 years old, has been working in the industry for only about 6 months. But in that short time, her popularity in the industry has sky rocketed. When I later ask her how many films she's done? She smiles and tells me she has no idea. When I press her for an estimate. She genuinely seems unsure, even roughly, how many films she's appeared in. She has gotten so popular that she has even begun to cross over into mainstream Hollywood work. I later learn that she recently had a speaking part in an upcoming Val Kilmer movie. With her beauty and natural engaging presence in front of the camera, it's not really a surprise. I ask her if she'd eventually leave the adult business to do mainstream, she tells me that she's open to whatever comes her way.

To some people, Ashlyn Rae may seem shy or reserved, but she really isn't. She's simply over herself.  When I ask questions about her work or the industry, she seems uninterested. When I ask her how she got her name, she quickly relates to me how it was a mistake. Someone mispronounced her real name as Ashlyn and she liked it, so she let it stick. I ask her if she prefers doing photo shoots or films? She briefly explains that she prefers doing photo shoots more. She enjoys the glamour and professionalism of a photo shoot. When I ask her about who she enjoys working with in the industry, she remarks that she likes everyone. That she hasn't had a bad industry experience yet. Like a manager at a restaurant explaining her duties, it's really just a job for her. But when I accidently stumble onto different subjects other than herself or the industry, she opens up like a giddy chatter bug. I find out about her newly adopted puppies and she beams with pride about her new maltese and chihuahua puppies. She relates to me the struggle of getting them potty trained and enjoys the quirky pleasure she gets by sharing her bed for the first time with two small dogs.

It's clear that Ashlyn enjoys keeping the work separate from her personal life. Although she isn't ashamed of her job, it's apparent that most of her energies are spent outside the industry. She doesn't really socialize with industry people or events. She surrounds herself with a close group of friends who are not involved in adult entertainment. By living in Orange County during her six months in the business, she has also been comfortably removed from the drama that is "Porn Valley". It is only recently, out of necessity, that she has decided to move to a closer area to spare her the pain of the intense commute from the O.C. to the Valley.

When it comes to Ashlyn's beauty in person, the best way to describe it is alluringly mysterious. Ashlyn is half Irish and half Mexican and she seems to have inherited all the best physical traits of each ethnicity. She has big green eyes, long luxurious hair. She has a petite body yet delicious hips which accentuate her feminity. She almost seems to carry herself with a magnetic grace and confidence that is simply impossible to ignore. Adjectives like demure, dainty and even regal pop to mind. Obviously all traits which are unusual for an adult performer. The paradox becomes even more alarming when she performs with male talent. Her sexuality seems to explode and pop onto the camera. She has sex like an experienced, insatiable pro, bending, flexing and melting into her partner, willfully buckling to his will.

Speaking of male talent, the day's performer is the popular ATKingdom artist Talon. Talon is a fascinating person, with an even more interesting personal life. An engaging and extremely affable person he comes off as a modern day Renaissance man. He has dabbled in several different fascinating professions. He worked as a massage therapist for Hollywood types, played a little in the stock market. He likes to box to stay in shape and his personal sex life is as wild and interesting as his on-screen life. Talon obviously takes great physical care of himself and is proud to proclaim he doesn't party too much. When I ask Alicia what traits she looks for when choosing male talent, she tells me that the number one trait she considers is someone who is respectful to their fellow performers. It's clear that Talon is Alicia's go-to-guy.

As the shoot progresses, I notice that Alicia's set is a well-oiled machine. Matt and Kenny take great care in lighting the sets and they are very delibrate and measured with each shot. Between sets Alicia edits some of the shots on her lap top.

When Kenny arrives to shoot the video, it's clear he takes great pride and care in his work. Kenny also shoots the content on a tripod to maintain a professional look. For point-of view videos, he'll get close up to the action, but he doesn't like to move the camera around too much, lest it distracts the viewer.

Instead, he prefers the action to be focused for the audience, rather than unfocused and all over the place. During the hardcore action, Talon and Kenny have a short hand language that can only be attained by years of work together. Hand signals tell Talon when to open up and which position to transition to. Like all things on a Alicia Silver shoot, everything comes off as very professional and respectful.

After 13 hours, the day ironically ends quickly. Alicia's machine is as well-oiled breaking down a set, as building it. I walk through and thank everyone. When the time comes to say goodbye to Ashlyn, she smiles and waves, her eyes briefly connecting with mine. I smile back, then turn away quickly so I don't get lost again in her gaze.  I walk to my car and get in. The image of her gorgeous smile stays with me, for the brief ride home.
