ROSEVILLE - What do you get when you cross a former porn star with a Christian youth group? On Sunday night in Roseville the answer was: A POWERFUL MESSAGE.

Shelley Lubben told a hard luck story heard too many times; a runaway, a prostitute, and a porn star all by the age of 18. "I'm thinking God is going to send me some rich guy to get me out of this, we always think God is going to show up a certain way. And what happened was I caught genital herpes, a non curable disease" she said.

Right now, you're probably thinking; what could an ex-porn star have in common with a bunch of kids from the suburbs. Lubben is quick to respond "ADDICTION!"

"First of all I'm going to help these kids stop doing pornography because the largest group for viewing pornography is ages 12-to-17."

Lubben left a life of pornography, addiction and abuse at 26. But, for the people at Adventure Church her story is symbolic of the choices and consequences all young people face.

College Pastor Richard Jett put it this way, "If we're not being real with ourselves and others about our struggles, we could all go down that same path."

Lubben talks with a passion. A passion that transcends sex, age and culture. 19 year old Nicholus Burgess, a freckle faced red head, was inspired by her story and her presence, "I actually it's amazing, She's an amazing woman of God, I can feel it."

Now the mother of three daughters, Lubben believes better parenting would've made a difference, "All I wanted was to hear my dad say I love you."

"They were bad people" she says. But like so many from that generation, they didn't know how to be better parents. "If I'd been taught values, and to love myself, to see myself do great things, I'd never have done pornography, never.

Today, Shelley Lubben works as a motivational speaker and a counselor.

Poor Shelly. While she has my sympathy for her negative experiences, it's unfortunate that she doesn't allow others the possibility of having a neutral or even positive experience with porn. While for some it's unfortunately laced with addiction and low self-esteem, for others it's an enriching method of expressing and enhancing their sexuality.

Rather than espouse a path of zero-tolerance and rejection, she should encourage teens to be comfortable with themselves, understand their own value regardless of the opinions of others, and educate them on the complexities of sexuality and human relationships.

What the FUCK!? What's such a ridiculous anti-porn article doing on a PORN SITE? Kids who watch porn don't need 'help', certainly not from some ignorant born-again ho.

The article didn't strike me as "ridiculous". Perhaps it's here on a porn site because the mods don't believe in censorship. Plus I like to read about all aspects of porn actors lives, whether it be positive or negative.

What do you mean, "kids who watch porn don't need help?" That's why they call it "adult" material: It's for adults, not kids. What is wrong with you?
